Apple Pie Day at Visible Men Academy

BRADENTON, Fla. — Students and staff at Visible Men Academy in Bradenton came together Thursday for a special event: whipping up pies to take home for the holiday.

The free K-5 public charter school serves students in Manatee and Sarasota counties. The school is now in its 10th year with more than 70 students currently enrolled.

What makes this school unique is that educators work to meet the needs of at-risk elementary school boys, so they grow up to become young men with bright futures.

Diego Velasco said he treasures the moments he shares in the classroom with students the most. He said education shaped his future, and he hopes it also resonates with his young students.

“I feel that the things that I have been able to accomplish in my life I can credit to a number of teachers,” he said.
